Half the pleasure of estate diamonds is the cutting. Old mine and old European cuts were faceted by hand for candlelight, with small culets and a warmth all their own; modern brilliants answer with precision and white fire. Diamond is the hardest material a jeweler handles, a 10 on the Mohs scale, so daily wear is what it was born for. It still collects skin oils faster than most stones; a warm soapy soak and a soft brush restore the fire. Our care guide has specifics.
