Collection: Citrine & Topaz Jewelry

November's two birthstones spent centuries being mistaken for each other; for a long stretch of history, nearly any golden stone was sold as topaz. Citrine is quartz warmed to gold, honey, or amber. Topaz is its own mineral, capable of far more than yellow, with the peach-to-orange imperial topaz standing at the top of the family. Our guide to citrine versus topaz untangles the two properly.

Citrine had its great era in the 1940s, when retro cocktail jewelers cut it large and set it in rose and yellow gold, and vintage and estate pieces in that spirit anchor this collection, joined by modern rings, earrings, and pendants in both stones.

Both wear well with a little knowledge. Citrine is quartz, 7 on the Mohs scale, happy in daily rotation. Topaz is harder at 8 but carries a natural cleavage plane, so it prefers settings that shield it from sharp knocks. Mild soap for both, ultrasonic for neither; our care guide explains.
