At Filigree we have a passion for vintage jewelry. We also love to layer jewelry of different eras. We get excited by the unique looks we achieve when we pair older pieces with modern designs. Our stock is extremely diverse so when you visit us you have the luxury of being able to try on an endless combination of baubles from many different eras. We draw inspiration from our inventory as well as our customers and the creative ways they layer heirloom pieces with today’s trends. We love mixing it up so much that we’re starting a new feature every Wednesday on Instagram called #bestoftimesseries to showcase how to combine our vintage jewelry with the new styles we also carry.
Putting together a personalized look with multi-era jewelry is easier than you might think. A good rule of thumb for mastering the mix is to choose a variety of pieces you love and try on different combinations. To ensure a cohesive mix of pieces from different periods it can help to repeat a theme in what you wear. Some possible uniting characteristics can be texture, geometric shapes, or one gemstone color in different tones. Chances are there is a common thread among the designs you naturally gravitate to, whether you covet anything with circles or any piece encrusted in multiple gems. The jewels you wear also don’t necessarily need to be similar to work together. Often our favorite combos surprise us. Ultimately the most important element needed to tie the look together is that you adore each piece.
So if you’re bored with the simple diamond pendant necklace you wear everyday don’t stop wearing it, just add another layer to add interest; try pairing it with an Art Deco filigree pendant or a modern metal chain. Adding another element can elevate and update your look from classic to eclectic. The key that will tie it all together is your intention. And best of all it will be an expression of your personal style. We love that mingling vintage and current trends in your jewelry creates a truly individualized look that you won’t see on anyone else. Need help creating your layers or stacks? Come in to see us!
